Kevin Harrington, one of the “original sharks” on ABC’s “Shark Tank”, wrote about Passion 4 Life in Forbes. Here are some excerpts.
“Today, most companies at least pay lip service to the idea of corporate social responsibility and its close cousin “cause-related marketing.” The idea is that companies can — and should — do well by doing good. With few exceptions, not many would argue with that proposition. But the problem can be a fundamental one: a disconnect between reality and appearance — between style and substance.
Passion 4 Life Liquid Vitamins and Minerals is an example of “doing it right”. They are “a vitamin with a mission.”
I share their story because it has made a big impression on me. And what a story it is!
Founded by Charles and Linda Van Kessler, Passion 4 Life was created to address the ongoing health and nutritional needs that Charles had since early childhood.
Born in Amsterdam, Holland during World War II, at age 2 Charles experienced the horrific scene of having his father’s side of the family, which was Jewish, snatched away in front of him by the Nazis.
His Catholic mother couldn’t care for him and placed him in a state-run orphanage where he suffered malnutrition and abuse of every kind imaginable for 8 years. After coming to America as a young man, in 1986 Charles founded a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, Passion 4 K.I.D.S. (www.passion4kids.org)
Years later, at age 65, having studied and researched nutrition for 15 years, Charles reinvented himself by creating a unique liquid vitamin product, Passion 4 Life.
And here’s the point: from the outset, Charles insisted that a portion of the profits would go to fund his charity.
This synergistic “marriage” combines the two things that Charles lacked in his formative years – good nutrition and people to truly love him.
You can’t be with the Van Kessler’s more than a few minutes before their eyes light up as they share the stories of “their” kids in the charity that they work with hands on.
Their main goal in growing their company is to be able to put more funds into their charity and help more children in desperate situations.
They are passionate about their mission and what they want their legacy to be.
That really touched me.
The vitamin B story is much more complex than you might think. Watch Charles Van Kessler explain why in the video, or read the transcript below.
Today I want to talk about the powerful B vitamins.
All the B vitamins are water soluble. The known B vitamins are: B1 Thiamin, B2 Riboflavin, B3 Niacin, B5 Panthotenic, B6 Pyridoxine, B12 Cyanocobalamin, B15 Pangamic Acid, Biotin, Choline, Folic Acid, Inositol and PABA (Para-aminobenzoic acid).
Although these are the only vitamins in the B-Complex that have been identified, there are many more yet to be identified. Scientists and researchers estimate that there are well over 100 vitamins in this Complex which all work together.
This is why it so important to take a B-complex vitamin from a whole food based liquid product rather than a synthetic vitamin.
Vitamin B1: Its primary importance is to keep the nerves healthy and to maintain a healthy mental attitude. It helps to convert the glucose into energy and also improves the muscle tone of the stomach, the intestines and the heart.
Vitamin B2: This vitamin helps the body absorb and utilize Vitamin B6. It is necessary for cell respiration. It works with enzymes to assist in the utilization of oxygen. It helps our mitochondria (our fat burning process in our cells) in order to produce energy. It is necessary for good vision, skin, nails and hair. It helps to prevent cataracts. It also helps with stress from injury or surgery. Helps produce red blood cells.
Vitamin B3: This is important for mental clarity and tranquility. It has a major effect on our circulatory and nervous system. It is very important for brain metabolism. Studies show that it might be instrumental in relieving symptoms of schizophrenia. It dilates blood vessels and brings more oxygen to the brain. It is also a digestive aid and helps stabilize blood sugar and is extremely beneficial for arthritis sufferers.
Vitamin B5: It is an immune system stimulant. It stimulates the adrenal cortex to produce cortisol which helps produce healthy skin and nerves as well as combat fatigue, depression and insomnia. It can protect against the harmful effects of antibiotics.
Vitamin B6: Supports all basic body functions and must be present for the production of antibodies and red blood cells. Without sufficient red blood cells, the body cannot receive the oxygen required for optimum health, and without the production of antibodies, the body is left vulnerable to attack by many foreign invaders. One cause of a severe B6 deficiency is the ingestion of refined sugars. For each teaspoon of sugar ingested, the immune system is basically at a standstill for a period of three hours unless there is adequate supplementation. It is very important for the breakdown and utilization for carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Many studies have shown that low levels of B6 are associated with a five-fold increased risk of heart attack. B6 is also helpful in the treatment of mental illness, including schizophrenia, autism and depression.
Vitamin B9 : Folic Acid: Folic Acid’s greatest claim to fame maybe that it is necessary for the formation of nucleic acid which is essential for the processes of growth and reproduction of all body cells. Without Folic Acid cells do not divide properly. Since Folic Acid deficiency is the most common vitamin deficiency in the world, it is no wonder that so much degenerative disease is prevalent in our society. It is necessary for reproduction of new cells and for healing damaged tissue.
The most prevalent effects of Folic Acid deficiency are depression, atherosclerosis and osteoporosis. Folic Acid is necessary for proper brain function. A deficiency can lead to irritability, forgetfulness and mental sluggishness. It is also needed for the production of red blood cells. Many recent medical studies have shown that B12, B6 and Folic Acid taken together can reduce coronary artery disease.
Vitamin B12: Preventor of Mental Ilness. Helps Prevent and reverse coronary artery disease. Your DNA can’t replicate without it! A lack of Vitamin B12 has been found to cause a type of brain damage resembling schizophrenia. A B12 deficiency can also manifest itself as nervousness, neuritis, unpleasant body odor, menstrual disturbances and difficulty walking. The lack of this vitamin could cause spinal cord deterioration. If a deficiency is not detected in its early stages, it may result in permanent mental deterioration and paralysis. Vitamin B12 will drastically increase your body’s energy and vitality.
